NLC India Limited has announced the commencement of coal production at the Pachwara South Open Cast Project in Jharkhand, marking a significant milestone in its energy production capabilities. The coal production began on 29th March 2026, following the start of overburden removal on 19th December 2025.

The , located in Dumka District, Jharkhand, was allocated to Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between Limited and Limited, with a shareholding ratio of 51:49 respectively. This coal block is intended to support the fuel requirements of the 3 x 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant in Uttar Pradesh.

The coal block, previously unexplored, has been thoroughly examined through detailed drilling conducted by NUPPL. It boasts an extractable coal reserve of 264.84 million tonnes, with a normative mining capacity of 9 million tonnes per annum. The coal is of an average G10 grade, suitable for the power generation needs of the thermal plant.

The development of the Pachwara South Coal Block is a critical component of NLC India’s strategy to ensure a stable and reliable coal supply for its thermal power operations, enhancing energy security and supporting the region’s power infrastructure.
