The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has given the green light for a substantial investment of ₹26,069.50 crore in the (HEP), located in the Kamle, Kra Daadi, and Kurung Kumey districts of . This ambitious project, spearheaded by Limited, aims to harness the hydroelectric potential of the region, with an installed capacity of 1720 MW.

The Kamala HEP is expected to generate approximately 6870 million units (MUs) of energy annually, contributing significantly to the region’s power supply. The project is designed with a capacity of 1720 MW, comprising eight units of 210 MW each and one unit of 40 MW. The estimated completion period for the project is 96 months, marking a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy sector.

The implementation of the Kamala HEP will be carried out through a Joint Venture Company between NHPC Limited and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. The Government of India has committed to providing ₹4,743.98 crore as budgetary support for the flood moderation component of the project. Additionally, ₹1,340 crore has been allocated for the development of enabling infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and associated transmission systems. Furthermore, a Central Financial Assistance of ₹750 crore will be extended towards the equity share of the state.

This strategic investment underscores the government’s commitment to bolstering renewable energy infrastructure and addressing the energy needs of the region. The Kamala Hydro Electric Project is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing the energy security of Arunachal Pradesh and contributing to the broader national objective of sustainable energy development.
