NHPC Limited has announced the commencement of commercial operations for Unit #1 of its Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, which has a total capacity of 2000 MW. The unit, with a capacity of 250 MW, began operations at 00:00 hours on 20 March 2026.
The Subansiri Lower HE Project is located on the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and consists of eight units, each with a capacity of 250 MW. With the commissioning of Unit #1, NHPC has now declared the commercial operation of three units, including Unit #2 and Unit #3. The company has indicated that the commercial operation dates for the remaining units will be announced in due course.
This development marks a significant milestone in NHPC’s efforts to enhance its power generation capacity and contribute to the region’s energy needs.
