Food delivery platform, Swiggy announced on May 13 that it has acquired restaurant-tech platform Dineout. Moreover, the move will make Swiggy a complete technology-based food platform that caters to needs from delivery to table booking.
Swiggy also clarified that Dineout will still remain an independent app. It is looking forward to capitalizing on Dineout assets and leveraging its position in the dining out space. Dineout brings with it an industry-leading network of over 50,000 restaurant partners along with
invaluable experience and proven technology. Swiggy will benefit from this, along with Dineout’s team, who are passionate about the restaurant dining out category. Founders Ankit Mehrotra, Nikhil Bakshi, Sahil Jain, and Vivek Kapoor will join Swiggy once the acquisition is completed.
Dineout was started in 2012 by the trio and was acquired by Times Internet in 2014 for an estimated 60 crore through its TimesCity platform.
“Dineout is a well-loved brand that enjoys loyalty from both consumers and restaurants. Times Internet and the founding team should be credited for the transformational impact they have brought about in the dining out experience through their products, technology, and a vast selection of restaurant partners,” said Sriharsha Majety, CEO of Swiggy in a press release. “The acquisition will allow Swiggy to explore synergies and offer new experiences in a high-use category.”
Therefore, this is the second major move by Swiggy after investing $180 million in bike-taxi startup Rapido.
