Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, has said that the firm would soon discontinue the ‘old blue check,’ or the blue ticks on verified accounts that have not subscribed to Twitter Blue.
Musk said that ‘legacy blue checks’ on Twitter would be abolished since they are ‘really corrupt.’
“Legacy blue checks will be removed soon. Those are the ones that are truly corrupt,” tweeted Elon Musk.
Dear @elonmusk the blue verification mark is now become a joke.
Earlier the blue tick verification was only given to ppl who were public figures and political figures but sadly today any Tom Dick n Harry gets verified.
Ur verification tick has lost the charm..— Ria (@RiaRevealed) February 10, 2023
This is in answer to a user’s inquiry about the blue verification. The user said that the’verification tick has lost its allure,’ pointing out that the blue tick verification was previously only available to prominent personalities, but now anybody may get it.
“Dear @elonmusk the blue verification mark is now become a joke. Earlier the blue tick verification was only given to ppl who were public figures and political figures but sadly today any Tom Dick n Harry gets verified. Ur verification tick has lost the charm..,” said the user.
Twitter will no longer show the blue checkmarks that users previously got for “active, prominent, and legitimate accounts of public interest” that the company has verified, according to Musk.
Twitter Blue services were just introduced in India. To utilise Twitter Blue services on mobile in India, customers must spend 900 per month on both Android and iOS devices. Users will have to pay Rs. 650 per month for a subscription package on the web. Twitter is now providing an annual membership option for online users for Rs. 6,800, which will be invoiced yearly.
To recap, Twitter Blue provides a slew of benefits for paying users, including undo tweets, early access to certain features, an edit tweet button, the option to submit longer and higher-quality videos, and prioritised ranks in conversations. According to the firm, Twitter Blue customers will now see half the quantity of adverts that average users would view on their home timeline.
Elon Musk revealed last year that Twitter Blue would cost $8 per month. It will, however, be priced differently in different areas.
