Power Grid Corporation of India acquires Kudankulam ISTS Transmission

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has acquired Kudankulam ISTS Transmission Limited (KISTSTL) through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) for Rs 7.44 crore.

The acquisition includes 10,000 equity shares at Rs 10 each along with all assets and liabilities as of the acquisition date. The project entails establishing the “Transmission System under ISTS for evacuation of power from Kudankulam Unit – 3 and 4 (2×1000 MW)” on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. This system will consist of a 400kV transmission line connecting Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant units to the Tuticorin-II substation in Tamil Nadu.

KISTSTL, incorporated on June 28, 2024, was acquired as per the timelines set by the Bid Process Coordinator. Regulatory approvals such as the Grant of Transmission License and Adoption of Transmission Charges will be obtained from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC). This acquisition is a significant step for POWERGRID, further strengthening its power transmission portfolio and facilitating the evacuation of nuclear power from Kudankulam units.
