Power Grid Corporation of India acquires Khavda V-B1B2 Power Transmission

The acquisition of KVB1B2PTL will enable POWERGRID to enhance transmission efficiency, ensuring seamless integration of power generated from renewable energy sources.

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), India’s leading power transmission company, has successfully acquired Khavda V-B1B2 Power Transmission Limited (KVB1B2PTL) under the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route. The acquisition was completed on February 18, 2025, following POWERGRID’s selection as the successful bidder.

The acquisition of KVB1B2PTL will facilitate the establishment of augmentation of transformation capacity at KPS1 (GIS) and KPS2 (GIS) (Phase-V Part B1 and Part B2 scheme) on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. This strategic move strengthens POWERGRID’s transmission network, particularly in Gujarat, where the project will enhance the power infrastructure at under-construction substations.

Acquisition Details

According to regulatory disclosures under SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements, 2015, the acquisition aligns with POWERGRID’s core business operations in power transmission. The key details of the transaction include:

  • Target Entity: Khavda V-B1B2 Power Transmission Limited
  • Industry: Power Transmission
  • Acquisition Cost: Rs. 6.51 crore, including 50,000 equity shares at Rs. 10 each, along with existing assets and liabilities
  • Percentage Acquired: 100%
  • Acquisition Mode: Cash consideration
  • Regulatory Approvals: Required approvals were obtained by the Bid Process Coordinator, REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), with further approvals needed from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) for Grant of Transmission License and Adoption of Transmission Charges.

The acquisition of KVB1B2PTL will enable POWERGRID to enhance transmission efficiency, ensuring seamless integration of power generated from renewable energy sources. Gujarat, being a hub for solar and wind energy projects, will benefit from the augmentation of power transmission infrastructure, supporting India’s ambitious renewable energy goals.

As per the disclosure, KVB1B2PTL was incorporated on November 18, 2024, and is yet to commence commercial operations. However, post-acquisition, the entity will play a crucial role in strengthening the national transmission network.
