Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works recently informed exchanges that the company has been awarded a prestigious contract by V.O. Chidambaranar Port for the supply, manning, operation and maintenance of a 60-ton Bollard Pull Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) Tug. The ₹96.25 crore contract spans seven years and marks a significant milestone for KMEW, as it is their first-ever contract for a 60-ton Bollard Pull ASD Tug.
The ASD Tug will be utilized for maneuvering large vessels in confined port spaces, including towing and assisting capsize vessels over 80,000 tons during berthing and unberthing operations. This contract underscores KMEW’s growing capabilities in the maritime sector, particularly in handling complex and demanding requirements.
This is the second contract awarded by V.O. Chidambaranar Port, where KMEW is already successfully executing an earlier contract for a high-speed patrol boat. The company’s expansion into providing diverse port ancillary services in southern India positions it as a key player in the region’s maritime operations.
Sujay Kewalramani, CEO of Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works Ltd stated, “This is a significant achievement for KMEW wherein we have secured our maiden contract for supply of 60-ton bollard pull (ASD) tug. This marks a key milestone in our growth and capacity expansion. Today, the Port sector requires more than 100 such tugs. With the award of this contract, we are now poised and qualified to cater to this requirement. This achievement deepens our relationships with existing ports and creates exciting opportunities with newer ports, ensuring that KMEW remains at the forefront of port ancillary services as the industry continues to evolve.”
