
Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) and Tata Projects Limited (TPL), in a 50:50 joint venture, have been awarded a ₹2,470 crore contract by Tata Power Company Limited. The contract involves the construction of the Bhivpuri Off-Stream Open Loop Pumped Storage Project (PSP) with a capacity of 1000 MW, located in Karjat, Maharashtra.
The project will include key civil and hydro-mechanical components such as the coffer dam, intake structures, head race tunnels, penstock, surge shaft, powerhouse, tail race tunnel, and a new lower reservoir with a GFRD dam. Additional infrastructure, roads, drains, and building structures will also be developed, ensuring the project’s seamless execution. The scope of work extends to the review and interface of electro-mechanical works, making this a crucial initiative for energy storage and hydropower efficiency.
HCC has played a significant role in India’s hydropower sector, contributing to nearly 26% of the nation’s installed capacity. The company is currently involved in five hydroelectric projects, including the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage System in Uttarakhand. This new contract further strengthens HCC’s position as a leader in hydropower development, reinforcing its expertise in executing large-scale infrastructure projects.
