Bharti Airtel has introduced an advanced AI-powered Fraud Alert system aimed at protecting customers from the rapidly rising threat of OTP-related banking frauds. The telecom major announced that the innovative solution delivers real-time protection by identifying potentially risky situations during live calls and alerting users before they unknowingly share sensitive banking credentials.

How Airtel’s AI-powered Fraud Alert works

Fraudsters often exploit the urgency associated with One-Time Passwords (OTPs) used for everyday services such as deliveries, account logins, or bill payments. By impersonating bank officials or service providers, scammers manipulate customers into revealing banking transaction OTPs, putting their hard-earned savings at serious risk.

Airtel’s new AI-driven system detects when a bank OTP is generated during a potentially suspicious incoming call. If such a scenario is identified, the network immediately triggers a fraud risk alert, warning the customer about the possible consequences of sharing the OTP while still on the call.

This combination of artificial intelligence and real-time intervention gives users crucial time to pause, reassess the situation, and verify the authenticity of the request. By interrupting the scammer’s momentum, the feature effectively closes the gap that fraudsters exploit through social engineering tactics.

Strengthening digital security with AI

Over the past two years, Airtel has significantly invested in technology-led safeguards to tackle digital fraud at its source. These measures include AI-powered spam call detection systems and malicious link-blocking capabilities that proactively prevent phishing attempts.

While these initiatives have reduced fraud across the network to a large extent, scammers have continued targeting human vulnerabilities through impersonation and psychological manipulation. The newly launched Fraud Alert system is designed specifically to counter this growing threat by intervening at the most critical moment—when a banking OTP is generated.

Rollout plan across India

The AI-powered Fraud Alert solution is already live in Haryana. Airtel confirmed that the feature will be rolled out to 100% of its customers across India within the next two weeks.

With the rapid growth of digital transactions and online banking in India, OTP-related fraud has emerged as one of the most common financial cybercrimes. Airtel’s latest initiative reinforces its commitment to customer safety and digital trust by leveraging AI technology to deliver proactive, real-time fraud prevention.
