Ather Energy, one of India’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers, has confirmed plans to enter the auto insurance services segment by incorporating a wholly owned subsidiary that will operate as a Corporate Agent. The new entity will offer auto insurance policies in partnership with multiple insurers, exclusively catering to Ather customers across the country.
The move is aimed at making the ownership journey more seamless by integrating insurance directly into Ather’s ecosystem. By bringing insurance distribution in-house, Ather plans to simplify policy purchases, renewals, and overall management while improving the customer experience. The company also sees this as an opportunity to build a steady, recurring revenue stream by leveraging its existing and growing user base.
Ather’s insurance platform will work with multiple insurance partners, giving customers more choice and flexibility. The in-house distribution model will allow the company to innovate around EV-specific insurance products, potentially offering better coverage aligned with the unique needs of electric two-wheelers. Over time, this could also help improve policy attachment rates and reduce friction in renewals.
Since the platform will primarily serve Ather’s existing customers, the initiative is expected to operate with minimal additional customer acquisition costs. This makes the venture capital-efficient while delivering incremental revenue with limited upfront investment. For customers, it translates into a more integrated experience, from purchasing an Ather scooter to insuring it and managing renewals through a single, familiar ecosystem.
