Amazon has appointed 25-year veteran Samir Kumar to oversee its India consumer business, following the departure of current Country Manager Manish Tiwary, who is leaving to explore new opportunities. Samir, who has been with Amazon since 1999, will take on this role in addition to his current responsibilities for Amazon’s operations in the Middle East, South Africa, and Turkey.

Samir was part of the original team that launched Amazon.in in 2013, and will officially assume operational duties in India starting October 1. He will work closely with the existing leadership team, which includes Saurabh Srivastava (Categories), Harsh Goyal (Everyday Essentials), Amit Nanda (Marketplace), and Aastha Jain (Growth Initiatives), who will all report to him.

Amit Agarwal, Amazon’s SVP for Emerging Markets, praised Manish Tiwary’s leadership, expressing optimism about the future of Amazon India under Samir’s guidance. He emphasized India’s importance to Amazon’s global operations and the company’s continued commitment to its customers and business growth in the region.
