Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has announced a strategic move to strengthen its maritime operations in South America through the acquisition of a majority stake in Argentina-based Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A.
According to the company’s regulatory filing, The Adani Harbour International FZCO (TAHID), a step-down subsidiary of Adani Ports, has signed a Share Purchase Agreement on May 15, 2026, to acquire a 51% stake in Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A. from Logistica y Servicios Maritimos S.A. and Simpo S.A.
The deal is aimed at establishing a joint venture for providing nautical and maritime services in Argentina. The acquisition aligns with Adani Ports’ long-term strategy to expand its maritime footprint across South America.
Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A. is engaged in maritime transport and nautical services in Argentina. The company already holds a long-term contract with Southern Energy S.A. for the supply of six vessels over a 10-year period, strengthening the strategic value of the acquisition for Adani Ports.
As part of the broader agreement, TAHID and Logistica y Servicios Maritimos S.A. will also collaborate through a UAE-based entity that will own vessels used in the operations. Adani’s subsidiary plans to sell a 20% stake in this UAE-incorporated company to an affiliate of Logistica y Servicios Maritimos S.A.
The acquisition consideration is entirely in cash, with Adani Ports set to acquire 510,000 Class A ordinary shares representing 51% ownership in the target company. The transaction value stands at approximately USD 444.49.
Meridian Transportes Marítimos S.A. was incorporated in Argentina in September 2023 and operates in the maritime logistics and nautical services sector. The transaction is expected to be completed within four months, subject to customary closing conditions.
