Bharat Forge subsidiary Agneyastra Energetics Limited, a wholly owned arm of Kalyani Strategic Systems Limited (KSSL), has announced the groundbreaking of a major defence manufacturing facility near Madakasira in Andhra Pradesh’s Sri Sathya Sai district.

The upcoming integrated defence manufacturing campus will be developed over more than 1,000 acres with a planned investment of ₹1,500 crore over the next two to four years. The project marks a significant expansion of Bharat Forge’s defence manufacturing footprint and is aimed at strengthening India’s indigenous defence and aerospace capabilities.

The facility will feature advanced manufacturing technologies, high-safety testing infrastructure, and specialised logistics capabilities to support the production of advanced energetics and ammunition systems used in modern defence and aerospace applications.

According to the company, the project is expected to create around 800 direct jobs and nearly 2,500 indirect employment opportunities, boosting regional economic development and strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position as an emerging aerospace and defence manufacturing hub.

Agneyastra Energetics has been established to reduce India’s dependence on imported energetics materials by developing indigenous and globally compliant defence solutions. The initiative is aligned with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission, focusing on import substitution, local value addition, and technological self-reliance in strategically important defence materials.

The development comes at a time when India is accelerating domestic defence production and encouraging private sector participation in the defence manufacturing ecosystem. Bharat Forge, through Kalyani Strategic Systems, has been actively expanding its presence across artillery systems, ammunition, armoured solutions, and aerospace components.

The ₹1,500 crore investment is expected to further strengthen Bharat Forge’s long-term growth prospects in the defence sector amid rising domestic and global demand for indigenous defence systems.
