Adani Energy Solutions Limited has reached a historic milestone by successfully delivering 1 crore electricity smart meters across multiple power distribution companies (discoms) in India, becoming the first player in the country—and potentially worldwide—to achieve this scale. The company is now on track to deliver the next 1 crore smart meters in the coming financial year, significantly accelerating India’s transition towards a digitally enabled power distribution ecosystem.
As India’s leading Advanced Metering Infrastructure Service Provider (AMISP), Adani Energy Solutions holds a mandate to install approximately 2.5 crore smart meters across five states. With an installation pace of nearly 25,000 smart meters per day, the company currently leads the industry in execution speed, underlining its operational strength and project management capabilities.
This achievement has been recorded well ahead of the company’s earlier guidance of reaching the 1 crore installation mark by 31 March 2026. The early completion highlights Adani Energy Solutions’ focused approach towards supporting India’s large-scale smart metering rollout under the Government of India’s flagship power sector reform initiative, the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme. The RDSS programme aims to replace around 25 crore conventional electricity meters with advanced smart meters to modernise the country’s power distribution infrastructure.
The growing smart meter network deployed by Adani Energy Solutions is already delivering tangible benefits to utilities and consumers alike. Real-time consumption data improves billing transparency, enhances demand forecasting, strengthens grid reliability, and helps reduce Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses. These insights are critical for utilities as India integrates higher levels of renewable energy and plans future grid design and operations.
Commenting on the milestone, Kandarp Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Energy Solutions, stated that achieving an installed base of 1 crore smart meters reflects the company’s execution excellence and deep engagement with both utilities and end consumers. He emphasised that smart meters are not merely devices but catalysts that empower consumers with real-time usage data, improve energy efficiency, and enable smarter energy management across the value chain.
Adani Energy Solutions’ rapid progress has been driven by an integrated ecosystem-led strategy that offers greater control and visibility across the entire smart metering value chain. The company has collaborated closely with group entities such as Adani Esyasoft Smart Solutions for smart metering and IoT capabilities, and AdaniConneX for secure local data hosting. In addition, partnerships with Tier I smart meter manufacturers have ensured timely equipment supply and long-term platform relevance throughout the contract lifecycle.
Another key differentiator has been the company’s focus on skill development. Through its CSR initiatives, Adani Energy Solutions has trained a large workforce of technicians dedicated to smart meter installations, enabling consistent execution at scale and maintaining high daily deployment rates across geographies.
The smart metering journey for Adani Energy Solutions began in 2024, and achieving 1 crore installations in roughly 24 months marks the fastest rollout of its kind in India. As the country pushes ahead with its ambition to modernise electricity distribution, Adani Energy Solutions is emerging as a pivotal player in India’s digital energy transition, setting new benchmarks for speed, scale, and execution in the smart metering landscape.
