Coal India Limited () has reported a 1.5% decline in coal production for March 2026, with figures standing at 84.5 million tonnes compared to 85.8 million tonnes in the same period last year. This provisional data was disclosed in the company’s latest filing with the National Stock Exchange of India ().

For the financial year from April 2025 to March 2026, CIL’s total coal production was 768.1 million tonnes, marking a 1.7% decrease from the 781.1 million tonnes produced in the previous year. The performance of CIL’s subsidiary companies varied, with some showing growth while others experienced declines.

Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) reported a 4.4% increase in production for March 2026, reaching 7.4 million tonnes, and a marginal 0.1% growth for the year with 52.1 million tonnes. Limited (BCCL), however, saw a 2.0% growth in March production at 4.4 million tonnes but faced a significant 12.3% decline over the year to 35.5 million tonnes.

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) recorded a 1.8% increase in March production to 11.9 million tonnes, yet its annual production decreased by 6.1% to 82.2 million tonnes. Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) showed a 7.9% growth in March with 11.7 million tonnes and a 1.1% increase over the year to 140.5 million tonnes.

Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) experienced a 3.8% growth in March production at 9.1 million tonnes but saw an 8.8% decline annually to 63.0 million tonnes. South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) reported a 7.0% decline in March production to 19.4 million tonnes, though its annual production rose by 5.3% to 176.3 million tonnes.

Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) faced a 7.5% decrease in March production to 20.5 million tonnes and a 3.0% decline over the year to 218.3 million tonnes. North Eastern Coalfields (NEC) maintained stable production with negligible changes.

In terms of offtake, CIL’s total for March 2026 was 69.5 million tonnes, a slight increase of 0.7% from the previous year’s 69.0 million tonnes. However, the annual offtake decreased by 2.4% to 744.8 million tonnes from 763.0 million tonnes in the prior year.
