Bharti Airtel, the world’s second largest telecom operator by customer base, has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 650 million customers globally. The company, which operates across India and Africa, continues to expand its reach and enhance its service offerings.
According to GSMA Intelligence, Bharti Airtel ranks second globally in terms of mobile customer base. The company’s operations are spread across India and Africa, supported by a robust portfolio of digital services and infrastructure capabilities.
Gopal Vittal, Executive Vice Chairman of Bharti Airtel, commented on this achievement, stating, “Achieving the milestone of 650 million customers to be the second largest operator globally is a great responsibility for us to serve our customers better every day. This is why we invest in state-of-the-art technologies to not only provide connectivity but to also deliver a safe network.”
In India, Airtel serves over 368 million mobile customers and was the first to launch 5G Plus services. The company has developed a converged ecosystem that includes Xstream AirFiber (FWA) and an integrated IPTV service. Airtel now provides high-speed internet services to over 13 million homes and digital TV offerings to over 15 million customers. The company’s innovation is supported by the world’s first network-based AI spam protection solution.
Airtel Business offers mission-critical solutions to enterprise customers, including Airtel IQ, cybersecurity, SD-WAN, cloud, managed services, and IoT. These offerings are powered by an extensive network of over 400,000 route kms of subsea fibre and Nxtra’s green data centres.
Airtel Africa, with over 179 million customers across 14 countries, provides integrated mobile voice, high-speed data, and international roaming services. Airtel Money, a mobile financial platform, has over 52 million customers, promoting financial inclusion by providing banking and instant payments to millions of unbanked users.
Globally, Airtel is bridging the digital divide through partnerships with Eutelsat OneWeb and SpaceX, using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites to deliver high-speed, low-latency broadband to remote areas.
