Axis Bank has introduced a new security feature, ‘Safety Centre’, on its mobile banking app ‘open’, aimed at empowering customers with real-time, customer-controlled security tools to protect their accounts from digital frauds.

The Safety Centre functions as a centralized security hub, allowing customers to independently manage and activate protective controls without contacting customer care or visiting a branch. The launch comes amid a rise in digital frauds and reinforces the bank’s broader Safe Banking initiative.

Key features include SMS Shield, an industry-first capability that verifies the authenticity of banking SMS messages by matching the Sender ID with Axis Bank’s official IDs. Customers can also disable Internet Banking access, stop all fund transfers across mobile and internet banking, restrict UPI payments, prevent online shopping via Net Banking, block the addition of new payees, and set transaction limits for fund transfers and UPI.

The Safety Centre ensures instant activation of security controls, enabling immediate protection without delays. By offering granular controls and selective blocking, the feature is designed to reduce fraud risks while improving operational efficiency by limiting dependency on branches and call centres.

Speaking on the launch, Sameer Shetty, Group Executive – Digital Business, Transformation & Strategic Programs, Axis Bank, said, “Axis Bank has always prioritized customer safety as the cornerstone of its digital-first approach. The Safety Centre represents a decisive step in tackling the surge in digital frauds by giving customers real-time control over their banking security. We are continuously strengthening our safeguards through layered protection and advanced authentication features such as SMS Shield and In-App Mobile OTP, which ensure uninterrupted access while reducing dependency on external networks. These innovations combine robust security with a seamless experience, making digital banking intuitive and reliable. By embedding future-ready capabilities, we aim to deliver a secure ecosystem that evolves with the changing threat landscape and customer expectations.”
