BEML Limited reported a mixed set of financial results for the third quarter, with healthy revenue growth overshadowed by a sharp decline in profitability on a year-on-year basis. The defence PSU slipped into losses during the quarter, mainly due to a steep fall in operating performance.
For Q3, BEML posted a net loss of ₹22.4 crore, compared with a net profit of ₹24 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. The earnings reversal comes despite a solid improvement in the company’s topline.
Revenue from operations rose 23.7% year-on-year to ₹1,083 crore, up from ₹875.8 crore in the same quarter of the previous financial year. The strong growth in revenue reflects improved execution and higher order inflows across key segments.
However, operating profitability weakened significantly. EBITDA for the quarter declined 94% year-on-year to ₹4 crore, compared with ₹60.4 crore reported in Q3 last year. As a result, EBITDA margin contracted sharply to 0.3%, down from 6.9% a year ago, indicating sustained cost pressures and lower operating leverage.
