Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Ltd. has secured its largest-ever order in the solar water pump segment, receiving a Letter of Award (LoA) worth over ₹101 crore (excluding GST) from the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency (MEDA). The order is part of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM) scheme.
The order involves the design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning of 4,500 Off-grid Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems (SPWPS) across Maharashtra. It also includes a five-year comprehensive maintenance contract (CMC). The project falls under Component-B of the PM-KUSUM scheme, which aims to promote the use of solar energy in agriculture.
The pumps will be installed in off-grid and rural areas to improve irrigation access and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources. The company’s solar-powered DC submersible pumps are designed for remote deployment and are intended to meet the needs of regions with inconsistent rainfall and limited grid power access.
Crompton plans to implement the project using its field personnel, local district support teams, and after-sales service network to ensure timely execution and maintenance.
This development is part of a broader national initiative to transition agricultural operations to renewable energy. Crompton participated in tenders in multiple states — including Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh — as part of the decentralised rollout led by state nodal agencies such as MEDA, MSEDCL, MPUVNL, and others. While operations are ongoing in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, and Haryana, the company is preparing to begin implementation in Madhya Pradesh.
The order comes amid growing demand for solar-powered submersible pumps in India, driven by the need for sustainable irrigation in rural and agricultural regions.
