JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, has entered into a Pumped Hydro Storage Power Procurement Agreement (PHSPPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL). The agreement involves the procurement of 1,500 MW / 12,000 MWh of pumped hydro energy storage.
The project is located in the Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh and is structured to provide scheduled discharge for 8 hours per day, with a maximum continuous discharge capacity of 6 hours. The agreement spans a 40-year period, during which JSW Neo Energy will receive a fixed capacity charge of ₹77.2 lakhs per MW annually.
The pumped hydro project is expected to be commissioned within six years. Upon completion, this will further contribute to the company’s growing energy storage portfolio.
With the addition of this agreement, JSW Energy’s total locked-in energy storage capacity has increased to 28.3 GWh, including 26.4 GWh from pumped storage projects (PSP). The company continues to progress toward its target of achieving 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030.
