Hansal Mehta said that Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light, which has received applause and awards worldwide, is technically very poor. On Saturday, the filmmaker took his thoughts about the critically acclaimed film to X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a poster of the film and wrote, “Technically very poor.”

His post seems to be somewhat sarcastic. He quoted FFI (Film Federation of India) jury head Jahnu Baruaa, who stated that All We Imagine As Light ‘is technically very poor.’ That is why they did not submit the movie for Oscars. The FFI dismissed AWIAL and instead finalised Laapataa Ladies, who lost out in the Oscars nomination bout.

After Hansal tweeted it created a lot of furore on the social media plaform. A user wrote, “Infuriatingly boring! Perplexed over the festival circuits going gaga over this mundane movie.” Another user commented, “Just saw it lask week….wanted to like the movie, but was super bored. The snail pace, and stretched shots. Also was not able to understand the point of unnecessary nudity.”

Hansal came out hard on the FFI after Kiran Rao’s ‘Laapataa Ladies’, India’s Official Entry for Best International Feature Film for the 97th Oscar Awards couldn’t qualify for the Oscars.
