According to report by AFP, Ukraine intends to hold the third round of discussions this weekend with Russian officials to try to cease the battle triggered by the Kremlin’s invasion, one of Kyiv’s negotiators told today.

“The third leg could be held tomorrow or the day after that, we are in constant connection,” Ukrainian presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak told, on the eighth day of the war.

Podolyak, talking in the Western city of Lviv, announced that Kyiv was just waiting for a reaction from President Vladimir Putin’s Kremlin to uphold the timing of the conversations. But in Berlin, Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s office told the German leader had talked to Putin on a call and had been ensured that the negotiations would begin again over the weekend.

Two previous meetings carried out on the Belarus-Ukraine border failed to halt the war, but the sides have approved in principle to at least allow humanitarian corridors for residents to exit.

However, the European Union’s foreign policy chief phoned on Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on Friday to stop the indiscriminate bombing of Ukraine. “This is Putin’s war, and Putin has to stop this war,” Josep Borrell told media in Brussels before a conference of EU and other foreign ministers to talk over the Ukraine crisis.
