As the war between Ukraine and Russia continues, an advisory has been issued by the Government of India. It says that all Indians present in Kharkiv, Ukraine, should immediately leave the city for “safety” amid heavy shelling.
Indian Embassy in Ukraine has issued an urgent advisory to Indian citizens in Kharkiv. The advisory states that Kharkiv must be abandoned immediately, proceeding as soon as possible to Pisochyn, Bezlyudivka and Babai. They have to reach these places by 6 pm (Ukrainian time) today. That is, according to Indian time, all Indians have been asked to leave the city by 9:30 pm tonight.
However, at this time in Kharkiv, vigorous attacks are being executed by the Russian army. In such a situation, while ensuring the safety of all the Indians trapped there, the Government of India has advised all Indian students and other citizens to leave Kharkiv. Recently there has been a fierce attack on the City Council building in Kharkiv.
Apart from this, another advisory has been issued saying that if no vehicle is found after leaving there, then keep moving towards the road on foot. It has been said from the Ministry of External Affairs that the advisory which has just been issued by our embassy is based on the information received from Russia. We would urge all our citizens to proceed immediately from Kharkiv to safer areas or further west using any available means on foot and taking safety into account.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Ukrainian forces reported that Russians hit a residential block and a government tower in the city, killing 18 people. One of the victims was an Indian student.
Ukraine has told that more than 350 civilians, including 14 children, have been killed in the six days of war and the International Criminal Court has begun a war crimes investigation against Russia.
