Terror group Taliban on Wednesday blew up Hazara leader Abdul Ali Mazari’s statue in Bamiyan. The attack comes a day after the Taliban declared a ‘general amnesty’  for all government officials.

“So Taliban have blown up slain #Hazara leader Abdul Ali Mazari’s statue in Bamiyan. The last time they executed him, blew up the giant statues of Buddha and all historical and archaeological sites. Too much of ‘general amnesty’.” Saleem Javed, human rights activist said in a tweet.

Abdul Ali Mazari was executed by the Taliban in 1995. Over the years Taliban repeatedly attacked Hazaras, an ethnic group residing in Hazarajat, in central Afghanistan. According to ANI, the blowing up of the statue is a grim reminder of the destruction of Bamiyan Buddhas during its previous tenure.

On August 16, one of the first lady governors of Afghanistan was captured by the Taliban. The news was confirmed by HOPE Hazara, one of the Hazara groups on Twitter.

“Hazara sources confirm Salima Mazari is now in Taliban custody. She is the Hazara district governor in Chaharkint, Balkh.” The group said in a tweet.

On Tuesday, the Taliban in an official statement declared ‘general amnesty’ for government officials, urging them to return back to work. “Those working in any part or department of the government should resume their duties with full satisfaction and continue their duties without any fear,” the group said in the statement.
