Recently, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that most of the viruses and germs do not spread that easily on flights because of how air circulates and is filtered in the aeroplanes. This was said in the CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines which were issued in May.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the air traffic in the US has gone down to about 90 per cent. For all the travellers coming from other countries, a 14-days quarantine has been mandated. However, it has been noted that air-travellers are not risk-free during the time of the pandemic and it has been recommended not to travel during these times.
CDC said, “Air travel requires spending time in security lines and airport terminals, which can bring you in close contact with others and touched surfaces. Social distancing is difficult on crowded flights as you may have to sit near others (within six feet), sometimes for hours. This may increase your risk of exposure to the virus.”
The CDC has also advised a series of preventive and hygiene measures for the airline staff and crew members in order to prevent the spread of the virus. It calls for the plane crew to immediately report to the CDC a traveller with COVID-19 symptoms like fever, cough, difficulty in breathing and appearing unwell.
