Mike Enzi passes away at the age of 77

Enzi, “passed away peacefully” while surrounded by his family, the statement added. 

The former Wyoming senator, Mike Enzi, passed away at the age of 77 on Monday. Reportedly, he had been suffering from serious injuries caused due to a bicycle accident near his home in Gillette, Wyoming.

A statement cited by Fox News reads, “His family expresses their deep appreciation for all of the prayers, support, and concern. They now ask for privacy and continued prayers during this difficult time.” Enzi, “passed away peacefully” while surrounded by his family, the statement added.

The family affirmed that the former Wyoming senator was admitted to UC Health Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado. Further, the family stated that he was unconscious and was unable to recover from his injuries. Mike Enzi suffered from a broken neck and ribs injury.

One of Enzi’s family friend informed that he fell around 8:30 pm on Friday, the time when the Gillette police received a report about a man lying unresponsive in a road near a bike.

Lt. Brent Wasson notified the Gillette News-Record that the police have not seen any indication that anybody else was nearby or involved in the accident.

Mike Enzi, a Republican retired in January following four terms as senator. Prior to being a senator, he served as a state lawmaker and mayor of Gillette, where he owned a shoe store.

As per the Casper Star-Tribune, Enzi in his final speech on the Senate floor voiced, “There is a lot of vitriol in our politics and our world right now, but you can stay true to what you believe in without treating other badly. Nothing gets done when we are just telling each other how wrong we are.”
