U.S. President Donald Trump has declared the newly announced two-week ceasefire with Iran a “total and complete victory” for the United States, just hours after agreeing to suspend American airstrikes on Iranian targets.

In a chat with AFP, Trump stated emphatically: “Total and complete victory. 100 percent. No question about it.

The comment comes as part of a conditional truce that requires Iran to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to safe international shipping in exchange for the U.S. pausing its bombing campaign for two weeks.

Trump Frames Ceasefire as Major U.S. Success

President Trump emphasized that the United States has already “met and exceeded all military objectives” and is now well-positioned for a longer-term peace agreement with Iran and broader stability in the Middle East.

In a Truth Social post announcing the deal, Trump described it as a “double-sided ceasefire,” noting that Iran had provided a workable 10-point proposal for negotiations. He credited conversations with Pakistani leaders — Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir — for helping facilitate the agreement.

Trump also reiterated his earlier comment that he believes China played a significant role in influencing Iran to come to the negotiating table, given Beijing’s strong economic ties with Tehran.
