PM Narendra Modi holds talks with Vladimir Putin

PM Modi was pleased with the proclamation of a ceasefire and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in several districts of Ukraine.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the Ukraine crisis with Russian President Vladimir Putin on a phone call according to ANI. Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, the two leaders have had three conversations.

Both Modi and Putin discussed the situation in Ukraine throughout the 50-minute talk. According to ANI, Putin informed our Prime Minister on the state of Russia-Ukraine talks on negotiations.

Prime Minister Modi emphasised the necessity of expediting the safe evacuation of the Indian people from Sumy. Putin informed Prime Minister Modi that he would work with him in whatever way he could to ensure their safe evacuation.

PM Modi asked Putin to undertake direct discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy in addition to the existing conversations between the delegations during their chat. According to government sources, the prime minister was pleased with the proclamation of a ceasefire and the establishment of humanitarian corridors in several districts of Ukraine, including Sumy.

Russia has proclaimed a ceasefire in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, and three other cities, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and Sumy, to allow inhabitants to be evacuated through humanitarian corridors. Last week, the prime minister spoke with Putin on the evacuation of Indians from Kharkiv, which is seeing fierce combat between Russian and Ukrainian forces.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi talked on the phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, requesting his assistance in evacuating Indians stuck in the warzone of Sumy. Following the meeting, Zelenskyy thanked the prime minister for his support on Twitter.
