On Saturday, March 12, the Italian police have seized a superyacht belonging to Andrey Melnichenko, a Russian billionaire. The yacht has been kept at the northern port of Trieste, informed the prime minister’s office.
This happened days after European Union imposed sanctions on Russian billionaires & lawmakers. The 143-metre long yacht is worth $578 million. The superyacht is designed by Philippe Starck & has been built in Germany & is the world’s biggest sailing yacht claimed the Italian government.
Andrey Melnichenko is a Russian industrialist & owns EuroChem Group, a major fertilizer producer. Earlier Andrey resigned from the board of the EuroChem due to restrictions placed on him.
The US has also imposed restrictions on Russian billionaires & held them equally responsible for the war. Several economic sanctions have also been imposed on Russia but President Putin isn’t budging from his stance on Ukraine.
