An Israeli airstrike on a village in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley killed 12 people late Monday, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah escalated further.
The strike comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had authorised more intensive military action targeting Hezbollah positions across Lebanon. The Israeli military has not officially commented on the specific strike that reportedly hit the village in eastern Lebanon, but earlier confirmed that it was carrying out operations against Hezbollah infrastructure in the Bekaa region.
The latest escalation marks another sharp rise in cross-border hostilities between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, which have intensified alongside the broader Middle East conflict.
According to Lebanese media reports, the strike targeted an area in the Bekaa Valley, a region considered one of Hezbollah’s strongholds. Casualty figures may change as rescue and recovery operations continue.
Israel has repeatedly stated that its operations in Lebanon are aimed at degrading Hezbollah’s military infrastructure, weapons storage facilities and launch sites. Hezbollah has meanwhile continued rocket and drone attacks toward northern Israel in recent months.
The renewed escalation also comes at a time when global markets remain sensitive to geopolitical developments in the Middle East, particularly amid concerns over oil supply disruptions and broader regional instability.
This remains a developing story and further official statements from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Hezbollah, or Lebanese authorities are awaited.
