Tehran has hit back sharply at President Donald Trump’s optimistic prediction of reaching a quick deal with Iran, calling his statements “delusional” and accusing him of speaking out of “despair and anger.”

An Iranian official stated that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until Iran receives compensation for war damages through a new legal transit-fee framework.

Iranian Response to Trump’s Fox News Comments

The strong rebuttal comes hours after President Trump told Fox News that he believes a deal with Iran could be reached by tomorrow (April 6, 2026).

According to the Iranian official:

“Trump, in despair and anger, is repeating delusional claims.”

The official made it clear that Iran will not reopen the critical waterway until a formal mechanism is established to compensate for damages caused during recent U.S. and Israeli military operations.

Current Situation: Strait of Hormuz Crisis

The Strait of Hormuz, through which approximately 20% of global oil and large volumes of LNG normally pass, has been largely closed since the escalation of conflict. This has triggered sharp spikes in global energy prices and forced many nations into emergency fuel measures.

Iran views the imposition of transit fees as a legitimate way to recover losses from the ongoing conflict, while the U.S. administration continues to demand immediate reopening of the strait.
