Imran slammed for sexist, misogynist comment against Maryam Nawaz

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has received heavy backlash for his ‘sexist and misogynist’ comments against the Pakistan Muslim League (N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz.

Islamabad, May 21: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has received backlash from a plethora of people, including politicians, journalists and civil society members, for his ‘sexist and misogynist’ comments against Pakistan Muslim League (N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz. The PTI Chairman made these comments during his ‘jalsa’ at Multan on Friday evening. Khan, referring to Maryam’s Sargodha rally on May 19, in which she continually berated him, said, “Someone had sent me the speech delivered by Maryam Nawaz in Sargodha yesterday. In that speech, she uttered my name with such passion that I would like to tell her. Maryam, please be careful, your husband may get upset because you were constantly repeating my name”. Geo News reported.

The remarks attracted huge criticism on social media, as people from different walks of life censuring Khan for his objectionable comments. PM Shehbaz Sharif, also Maryam’s paternal uncle, slammed Imran, saying that his crimes against the country cannot be hidden by the expression of low humour. “The entire nation, especially women, should strongly condemn the deplorable language used against daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Your crimes against the country and the nation cannot be hidden by the expression of low humour. What can be expected of the honour. And respect of mothers, sisters and daughters from those. Who do not pass the sanctity and honour of Masjid Nabavi”. Sharif tweeted on Friday. “He is the first person in history to fall into this abyss of rudeness as the leader of a party. They went out to make a nation and spoiled the morals of the nation. To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return,” the Prime Minister added.
