Pranab Mukherjee, former President of India, breathed his last on Monday. He was 84. The information was shared by his son Abhijit Mukherjee.

Last year, the former President was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in India.
Born in Mirati in Birbhum District of West Bengal on December 11, 1935 to freedom fighters, Mr Mukherjee’s father was a Congress leader.
Mukherjee, fondly known as ‘Pranab Da’ was the president of India between 2012 and 2017. A powerful orator and scholar, Mukherjee had been a Congress stalwart before he was elected as India’s President.
