As per a report released by the Hindustan Times, after the assassination of president Jovenel Moïse, to help secure its airport, ports along with other strategic sides Haiti has asked Washington and the United Nations to send troops, as said by a government minister on Friday.
Opening up a power vacuum in the impoverished and crisis-hit Caribbean nation, two days after Moïse was brutally assassinated by gunmen in his home, along with other agents the United States has already mentioned sending FBI to Port au Prince.
Request for security and investigative assistance has been confirmed to be received by the United State’s State Department and Pentagon, they also mentioned that officials remain in contact with Port au Prince, although whether the military troops shall be deployed or not is yet to be specified.
Senior FBI along with other officials shall be heading towards the Caribbean as soon as possible as added by Jen Psaki, White House spokeswoman, on Friday, while a willingness to help the Haitian investigation has been signalled by Washington.
With the presence of no working parliament, amid the uncertainty, two men are now wearing to lead the nation which consists of 11 million people among which more than half of whom are under age 20. In anticipation of more instability people scrambled to stock up on necessities at the supermarkets along with lining up at gas stations to buy propane used for cooking.
