The Batman II is steadily building momentum as one of DC’s most anticipated upcoming projects, and fans eager to see Robert Pattinson return as the Caped Crusader just got a major update. Director Matt Reeves recently confirmed that the final script is complete — co-written with Mattson Tomlin — and even posted a photo of the finished pages on Instagram, captioned “Partners in Crime (Fighters).”
Backing the buzz, DC Studios co-head James Gunn offered rare but meaningful praise, commenting simply: “It’s great.” While brief, his endorsement carries weight, especially after weeks of urging fans to be patient with the creative process.
In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn had defended Reeves’ approach to storytelling, emphasizing that quality takes time:
“People should get off Matt’s nuts… He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. You like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”
As for what we know so far, the sequel is set to follow the gritty, noir tone of the 2022 film, which was both a critical and commercial success. While the plot is being kept tightly under wraps, it’s confirmed that Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Paul Dano, Zoë Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis are also expected to reprise their roles, making for a strong returning ensemble.
The Batman II is officially slated for theatrical release on October 1, 2027 — giving Reeves and his team ample time to deliver another atmospheric, character-driven installment in what is expected to be a full trilogy.
