After Baby Reindeer hit the screens, it quickly became one of the most popular and talked-about shows online. But this sudden fame brought a lot of intense pressure on the show’s creator and star, Richard Gadd.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Gadd opened up about how overwhelming the experience has been. He described going through some really tough times, saying the pressure reached an “intolerable” level and compared it to a hurricane. It’s been a wild ride.

Gadd explained that he hasn’t yet had a chance to fully reflect on everything because he feels “very squeezed” and needs some real downtime to get grounded again.

A big part of the stress came from the show blowing up so quickly. Gadd shared that Baby Reindeer was released on a Thursday, and by Sunday, people were already knocking on his door asking for autographs! That’s a huge change from his early days as an arthouse comedian, where he performed for just a handful of people every night. Now, even simple things like going to the supermarket come with “a million caveats.”

For those who haven’t watched the show yet, Baby Reindeer follows Donny (played by Gadd), who struggles with a twisted relationship with a female stalker. The story dives deep into how this affects him, eventually forcing him to confront some painful, buried trauma.

Looking ahead, Richard Gadd is working on a new project called Half Man, a six-part drama set to be released on HBO and BBC in 2026.

In the meantime, fans and newcomers alike can catch Baby Reindeer streaming on Netflix.
