It seems that Deadpool fans will have to wait a bit longer for the highly anticipated third installment. Due to the actors’ strike that went into effect in mid-July 2023, production on Deadpool 3, which was already underway, had to halt. As a result, the film won’t be able to meet its originally planned release date in May 2024.

There’s speculation that Captain America 4, which has already wrapped up filming, might potentially fill the May slot initially intended for Deadpool 3, should the actors’ strike conclude in the coming weeks.

The excitement for Deadpool 3 has been further fueled by images from the set featuring Ryan Reynolds in his signature red Deadpool suit alongside Hugh Jackman in a comics-accurate yellow and blue Wolverine suit. Additionally, the announcement of Jennifer Garner reprising her role as Elektra after two decades has added to the buzz.

In October 2023, rumors were sparked when Taylor Swift was seen attending an NFL game with Reynolds, Jackman, and Deadpool 3 director Shawn Levy. This has led fans to speculate that Swift might have a cameo in the film, potentially portraying the mutant character Dazzler.

While the writers’ strike concluded in late September, talks between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA regarding the actors’ strike have reportedly hit an impasse. Once the strike is resolved, there will be a rush to resume or commence filming across the industry, and A-list stars will be in high demand. Studios, including major players like Disney, prefer to secure release slots far in advance. Once one studio adjusts its schedule, others are likely to follow suit, affecting the release dates of upcoming Marvel movies and films from other major studios like Warner Bros, Paramount, and Universal. As it stands, the first half of the following year could see a shortage of new releases in theaters.
