Ryan Reynolds, the charismatic actor behind the iconic Deadpool, expressed delight on social media after seeing countless Halloween revelers dressed as his famed Marvel character alongside Wolverine, a role reprised by his close friend and costar, Hugh Jackman. On Friday, November 1, Reynolds, 48, took to Instagram to marvel at the sea of costumes inspired by Deadpool and Wolverine, characters who joined forces in their recent summer blockbuster and have since captivated fans worldwide.
A dream come true for Ryan Reynolds:
Posting a photo with Jackman from the film, Reynolds wrote, “I can’t believe the amount of Deadpool & Wolvie costumes running around last night.” He reminisced about his early ambitions, describing the experience as “like being five years old, staring out the window at some impossible future.” Fans of all ages, from children to adults, embodied the sharp-witted Deadpool and the fierce Wolverine, with many even quoting lines and performing stunts in tribute to their favorite heroes.
Reynolds’ portrayal of Deadpool has proven nothing short of transformative for the Marvel character. After first introducing an earlier version of Deadpool in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Reynolds fought to give the character a stand-alone film. The first Deadpool movie, released in 2016, marked a turning point in comic book adaptations by embracing the character’s R-rated, meta, and satirical edge. This year’s film marked Deadpool’s full entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) — a monumental moment that both Reynolds and fans had eagerly awaited.
The actor expressed deep gratitude for the widespread admiration Deadpool and Wolverine have received, saying, “No part of me takes it for granted or feels entitled to it.” Reynolds, who has always been vocal about his dedication to Deadpool, likened seeing the Halloween tribute to “having a dream come true – but a dream you didn’t know you were dreaming of.”
Reynolds’ passion for the character is well-known, dating back over a decade to his early pitches of Deadpool to anyone who would listen, including his wife Blake Lively and friend Taika Waititi during their time on the 2010 Green Lantern set. His dedication has certainly paid off, as Deadpool has not only become a beloved figure but has cemented Reynolds’ legacy as one of the most distinctive actors in the superhero genre.
