Ryan Coogler, the director of *Black Panther 2*, was mistakenly taken for a criminal while trying to withdraw money from his bank account. Back in January 2022, Coogler went to his local bank in Atlanta and, wearing sunglasses and a face mask, handed the teller a note asking to withdraw $12,000 in cash. He requested that the money be counted elsewhere for discretion.
The teller became suspicious and thought a robbery might be happening, so they called the police. Coogler was detained and put in handcuffs until the situation was clarified and he was released. Afterward, he asked for the badge numbers of the officers involved.
Coogler later commented on the incident, saying he didn’t agree with how the teller handled the situation but was pleased with how Bank of America resolved the matter privately. “This situation should never have happened,” he said. “However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction, and we have moved on.”
This incident was one of several challenges faced during the production of *Black Panther 2*. The film also encountered delays due to Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, suffering an injury on set and complications from Covid-19.
