DJI has introduced its latest action camera, the Osmo Action 5 Pro, designed to rival GoPro’s Hero 13 lineup. This new model boasts a range of impressive features aimed at enhancing both image quality and user experience for professionals and enthusiasts alike.
The Osmo Action 5 Pro comes equipped with a next-generation 1/1.3-inch image sensor, which offers a significant upgrade in image quality. This sensor supports 40-megapixel stills and provides an industry-leading 13.5-stop dynamic range, allowing for exceptional performance in low-light conditions and high-dynamic range video recording at 4K/60fps. This advanced sensor is complemented by a new 4nm chip that improves power efficiency, enabling up to four hours of continuous recording on a single charge.
One of the standout features of the Osmo Action 5 Pro is its super-slow-motion capability, which captures video at a staggering 1080p/960fps. This is achieved through a combination of 240fps capture and intelligent frame interpolation. The camera’s battery life claim is notable, but it’s worth noting that the figure was achieved under controlled laboratory conditions. In real-world use, particularly with 4K recording, the actual battery life may vary. The camera operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -4F to 113F, though at the lower end of this range, battery life may drop to 3.6 hours.
The new Osmo Action 5 Pro replaces the dual LCD screens of its predecessor with larger OLED displays on the front and back. The displays provide more vivid and dynamic colors, elevating the overall user experience. Additionally, the camera includes 47GB of fast built-in storage, allowing users to start shooting immediately without needing to insert a microSD card right away.
Other features include waterproofing down to 20 meters, 4K/120fps capture in 4:3, Wi-Fi 6, and USB 3.0 connectivity. The Osmo Action 5 Pro also introduces a 360-degree horizon lock feature and advanced subject-tracking capabilities. While it lacks built-in GPS, users can integrate location data and sports tracking by pairing it with DJI’s Osmo Action GPS Bluetooth Remote Controller.
Priced at $349 / £329 / €379, the Osmo Action 5 Pro is available for purchase today and includes a standard combo kit with essential accessories for mounting and maintenance.
