Apple is set to roll out macOS 15 Sequoia later today, following its announcement during the iPhone 16 ‘Glowtime’ launch event. Enthusiasts eager to experience the new desktop OS can look forward to a range of exciting features and enhancements designed to boost productivity and streamline the user experience.
A key highlight of macOS 15 Sequoia is iPhone Mirroring, which enables users to run iPhone apps directly on their Mac desktops. This capability will enable Mac and iPhone users to view and interact with iPhone apps, respond to text messages, and manage notifications from their Macs. The feature promises to enhance productivity by facilitating seamless file transfers between devices, although this functionality is still in development.
Safari, Apple’s web browser, is receiving several notable updates in macOS 15. Users will benefit from a new ‘Reader’ mode for a distraction-free reading experience and a ‘Viewer’ mode that highlights and centres video content for easier viewing. Additional battery-saving optimizations are being introduced to improve performance on MacBook models.
macOS 15 also introduces improvements in storage management. Users will no longer need double the required space to install apps, and large applications can now be installed on external drives. Additionally, a new Password app will replace Keychains, offering enhanced security and convenience. The OS also debuts dynamic wallpapers, including a forest-themed background specifically designed for Sequoia.
However, some of the anticipated features will not be available at launch. The Apple Intelligence capabilities, which are part of macOS 15.1, will be introduced in October. This version of macOS will debut alongside new M4-powered Macs, which are expected to be revealed later in the month. Notably, only Macs equipped with Apple M-series CPUs will support Apple Intelligence features. For users who are eager to upgrade, macOS 15 is available for free. However, it’s important to note that only compatible Macs will be able to install the new OS.
