Tony McFarr, a longtime stuntman known for doubling Chris Pratt in several blockbuster films, tragically passed away at his home near Orlando, Florida, on Monday, May 13, 2024. He was 47 years old, as confirmed by his mother, Donna McFarr.
The exact cause of Tony McFarr’s death remains unknown, with TMZ reporting that it has not yet been determined. Donna McFarr described her son’s passing as shocking and unexpected, emphasizing that Tony was otherwise active and in good health. The Orange County Medical Examiner is expected to release a toxicology report once testing is complete, although it remains unclear whether McFarr’s body will undergo an autopsy.
Tony McFarr first stepped into the role of Chris Pratt’s stunt double during the filming of Jurassic World in 2015. With his striking resemblance to Pratt, McFarr continued to double for him in subsequent films such as Passengers, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Over the years, a close bond developed between Pratt and McFarr, with Pratt expressing his affection for McFarr in an Instagram post in 2016, captioned “Love you buddy! Happy wrap!”
In addition to his work alongside Pratt, McFarr contributed his stunt expertise to various TV shows, including Bones and The Walking Dead, as well as films like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and Captain America: Civil War. McFarr’s commitment to his craft was evident, although he faced adversity when he sustained serious injuries in a fall while filming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, as reported by TMZ.
Outside of his stunt career, Tony McFarr pursued entrepreneurial ventures, notably opening Reel Bowls, a movie-themed poke and salad restaurant in Orlando, Florida. His passion for food and business was evident in his social media posts, where he proudly announced the opening of Reel Bowls just months before his passing. Throughout his lifetime, McFarr also established three other restaurants, including The Fit Kitchen.
Tony McFarr’s funeral arrangements include burial near his grandmother’s resting place in Pennsylvania. He is survived by his mother, father, sister, and daughter. As of now, Chris Pratt has not publicly commented on the loss of his dear friend and colleague, Tony McFarr.
