Recent reports suggest that Marvel might consider reuniting the original Avengers, bringing back iconic stars like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Chris Evans. While Kevin Feige, the Marvel head honcho, has refuted these claims, the multiversal scope of Avengers: Secret Wars could pave the way for the return of certain beloved characters. Speculation surrounds Evans, possibly reprising his role as Steve Rogers or even revisiting his earlier stint as the Human Torch from Fox’s Fantastic Four films.
Yet, equally compelling is the potential journey of Alba Baptista, Evans’ wife and the star of Netflix’s action-packed comic book adaptation, “Warrior Nun.” Despite her past success and relevance in the genre, there’s been no buzz about Baptista joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). This silence could inadvertently open the door for her potential leap to the DC Universe (DCU).
James Gunn, known for his DC projects, seems to have a penchant for casting Portuguese actresses in his films. Following Daniela Melchior’s inclusion in “The Suicide Squad,” “Superman: Legacy” has roped in Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher and Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer. Given Baptista’s prominence as one of the most notable Portuguese actresses in Hollywood, it’s plausible that Gunn might consider her for an upcoming role. There’s speculation that she might be eyed for significant DC roles like Kara Zor-El in “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” or an Amazon in the “Paradise Lost” Wonder Woman prequel series.
This potential shift would mark an intriguing turn for the Evans household. If Baptista were to join the DCU, it would see the couple navigating separate superhero universes vying for box office dominance. However, unlike the fictional conflicts in these cinematic universes, their real-life relationship is likely strong enough to weather any superhero civil war scenarios.
