Outer Banks Season 5 is the upcoming fifth and last season of a highly rated Netflix adventure-drama series following the Pogues as they go on adventures, are friends, and have rivals while searching for treasures in the Outer Banks (or anywhere else).
Since there hasn’t been an official announcement yet from Netflix, we don’t have an exact premiere date for the new season at this time. Some believe that Netflix will confirm a date sometime between January 2026 and whenever the show premieres (most likely January–June). There have also been some early estimated dates included in the rumor mill (around March or December). As of today, Netflix has not launched an official trailer or announced a premiere date for the new series as of yet.
Outer Banks season 5: Release date countdown
Production status: Filming of this episode began June 16, 2025, in Charleston, SC, with some filming done internationally (Dubrovnik, Croatia). Filming was completed on December 19, 2025.
Episode count: There were 10 episodes, including the feature-length finale.
The fourth season will be released in two parts, each with five episodes. As of March 2026, reports from Netflix indicated that Season 5 would likely be released at once (in binge format), although that could change.
Previous seasons usually take months to complete post-production (after filming is complete) before being released. The fourth season filming ended in December 2025; thus, based on prior seasons, season 5 may be released sometime between mid to late 2026 (i.e., summer/fall); however, Netflix typically announces specific dates closer to release.

Production first look photos show the cast without JJ, demonstrating a change in the Pogues’ dynamics and reinforcing the bond between them as they continue in the absence of JJ. New characters are being added through guest and recurring roles, with different cast members teasing about their presence (for example, Drew Starkey).
Outer Banks season 5: Story & What We Know So Far (Spoilers for Season 4)
Major Spoiler Alert: The season 4 finale of Outer Banks had one of the biggest shocks in the history of television, the death of JJ Maybank at the hands of his biological father, Chandler Groff, who has stolen the Blue Crown treasure and fled for his life (reportedly to Portugal). The Pogues have vowed to get revenge and to have justice.
Season 5 picks up shortly after the end of season 4, and the showrunners (Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke) have confirmed that they will not be doing a significant time jump (per Madelyn Cline) between season 4 and season 5.
There are some expectations that:
- A darker, more emotional overall tone that deals with grief, revenge, and the pursuit of redemption.
- The continuation of the search for the Blue Crown, as the showrunners have indicated from the beginning, that the treasure hunt will continue throughout the series.
- An exploration of the friendship between the Pogues, honouring JJ’s spirit, and how each character is going to have his or her own story arc (i.e., John B. and Sarah will have to navigate their impending parenthood during the chaos).
- Lots of high-stakes adventure with the potential for major confrontations with the Lupine Corsairs and attempts to clear their names and/or reclaim Poguelandia.
- A planned-from-the-beginning epic finale that will “take the Pogues home” as the creators first envisioned it.
The showrunners have committed to honouring JJ’s character and bringing to fruition the five-season arc they originally laid out several years ago.
