According to several media reports citing Palghar Police, Mistry died in a road accident on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway in Palghar.

The incident occurred on a bridge over the Surya River when his Mercedes was returning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

There were four people in the car, two died on the spot and two were taken to the hospital. The two deceased has been identified as Jahangir and Cyrus and two other people named Anahita Pandole and Darius Pandole are injured in the mishap and hospitalised. According to Palghar SP, the car hit the divider.

Mistry, Tata Sons’ sixth chairman, resigned from the position in October 2016. After Ratan Tata announced his retirement in December 2012, he took over as chairman. N Chandrasekaran was later appointed Executive Chairman of Tata Sons.

In May, the Supreme Court denied the Sapoorji Pallonji (SP) group’s request for a review of the 2021 verdict, which upheld the Tata group’s decision to remove Cyrus Mistry as executive chairman of Tata Sons.
