Congress Members walk out as Nirmala Sitharaman gives speech

Congress Members had walked out of the debate as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had talked about price rise in the country

In the most recent update, Congress members had walked out of the debate session today in the parliament as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had talked about price rise in the country. She said that there is no way the country would go into recession with the price rise.

“The pandemic, second wave of Covid, Omicron, Russia-Ukraine — in spite of all this we have held the inflation at 7 per cent or below. And that has to be recognised. Currently retail inflation is at 7 per cent. During UPA rule from 2004 to 2014, the inflation went into double digits. During that period, the inflation was above 9% for 22 consecutive months,” she said.

Ms. Sitharaman talked about the increase in prices of food and the subsequent inflation. She had assured that the food inflation is coming down in the world and would come down in India as well. She had also mentioned that India has a better position in terms of GDP than many other developing nations. In the end she talked about the recession of US economy and how India continued to persist on.

Ms. Sitharaman’s response came after almost 10 days of chaos over the Treasury department’s expenditure and questioning in the Parliament.
