UIDAI warns people of Aadhaar card fraud

For any Indian citizen, the Aadhaar card is a very essential document. The card accounts for all the sensitive information of an individual. It is therefore much exposed to activities like a fraud.

To ensure that the individuals are cautious against these activities, the official Twitter account of UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) put forward tweets asking users to vary Aadhar Card frauds. It has also mentioned steps to help to keep the individual’s identity safe. UIDAI is the regulatory body for Aadhaar Card.

Through the tweet, it informs the people that they can verify anyone’s Aadhaar Card online. In order to verify, one has to put the 12 digit code on the link mentioned. This step can also be followed by using the mAadhaar app.

In another tweet, the authorities clarify that the Aadhaar number alone cannot be considered as Aadhar proof. Further, it noted to verify those numbers on the UIDAI website prior to accepting them as identity proof.

The authorities have also published a small video that explains to people the measures required to ensure the privacy and security of an individual’s identification data.

Steps to ensure Aadhaar card protection against fraud, as noted by ‘DNA’ :

-Individuals must make sure to delete all downloaded e-Aadhaar material from public computers when used.

  • One should not share their One-Time Password (OTP) under any circumstances.
  • People must not allow other individuals to attach or link their mobile number to their Aadhaar Card.
  • It is recommended to keep one’s biometrics locked. This can be done through the UIDAI portal. Users can also unlock biometrics with the use of their registered mobile numbers.
  • Aadhaar authentication history must be checked on a regular basis.
