United States President Donald Trump on Monday suggested that Washington and Beijing may have reached an agreement on TikTok, the popular video-sharing platform caught in the middle of geopolitical tensions.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:

“The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly. A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!!”

Though Trump did not explicitly name TikTok, his remarks come amid ongoing negotiations between US and Chinese delegations in Europe over trade and technology restrictions. The app, which has faced repeated scrutiny in the US over data privacy and national security concerns, has been at the heart of bilateral talks for months.

The former president’s comments signal that a breakthrough may have been achieved ahead of his scheduled conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.
