X (formerly Twitter) has started rolling out its new account country labels, a transparency feature that publicly displays the country associated with a user’s account. The update marks the platform’s latest step toward enhancing authenticity and curbing fake engagement.
The feature, which is now appearing for select users, was first announced earlier this week by Nikita Bier, X’s Head of Product. According to Bier, the country label will be shown directly on user profiles, alongside other upcoming transparency additions such as username change history.
For now, the rollout is limited and is initially visible only on profiles belonging to X team members. However, the platform plans to expand the feature to a wider audience in the coming weeks.
X says the move is aimed at helping users verify who they are interacting with, reducing confusion around impersonation, and increasing trust across the platform.
Further updates on global rollout and additional transparency tools are expected soon.
